The Smiths is the self-titled debut studio album by The Smiths, released on 20 February 1984. Shown here is the Rough Trade album cover featuring a photo of Joe Dallesandro from Andy Warhol’s 1968 film Flesh. The Bold weight of Optima was used for the band’s name. It was also used on the covers for the “Hand In Glove”, “This Charming Man”, and “What Difference Does It Make?” singles.
