The first-edition jacket of The Science of Dreams was designed by Carl Smith using Venus Extended and Bookman. Edwin Diamond’s “analysis of what you dream and why” was published in 1962 by Doubleday (and by Eyre and Spottiswoode in the UK).

A graduate from the University of Chicago, Diamond (1925–1997) worked on newspapers and for the International News Service. In 1957 he became Science Editor of Newsweek and in 1961 was named a General Editor. For the last thirteen years of his life, he was a professor of journalism at New York University.
