MacFadden Books 60-125, September 1963

Macfadden Books first published a paperback edition of The Science of Dreams in 1963. The cover design is credited to Paul Bacon Studio and features a unicase setting of Hellenic Wide. The wide slab serif didn’t come with proper unicase forms. The designer must have scaled up the lowercase r and a to cap height themselves. It shows: strokes end up thicker than in the capitals.

A second printing from 1968 features a different, uncredited cover. Instead of showing a sleeping person whose head is wired for brainwave measurements, we now get to see a blurry photograph of a couple holding hands, apparently secretly watched from the shrubbery. The title typeface here is West Cooper Nouveau Swash.
