There will be no meteorite, no celestial detonation, no end of the world living up to our fantasies. No blinding explosion that swallows everything at once, no clean-cut apocalypse. Just a crumbling, a slow erosion, a patient extinction stretching out like a season that lasts too long. I dreamt of tsunamis, of colossal waves rising and engulfing everything. Dreams that burn and transform. But reality has none of this momentum, it disintegrates without brilliance. The end is already here. It doesn’t scream, it gnaws. And yet tonight, by the river, under the warm light of a summer that lingers too long, we’re still here.
Red is over my lover. Not anymore mi amor is published by Saetta Books and designed by Théo Miller. The layout gives pride of place to the photographs by Laura Lafon Cadilhac, with full-page printing and a large format when the book is opened (approximately DIN A3). The photographic narrative occupies almost the entire book, interrupted only by a very short poem by the author, presented in both French and English.
Much like the photographs, the poem is fragmentary and enigmatic: each word is carefully chosen and spatially arranged on the page to give it the weight it deserves. The colours are bold, and the materials chosen are in sharp contrast: cast-coated and rough uncoated paper.
It is a short book (48 pages), but intense, oversaturated, and devoid of any white space. The colophon and the title are inspired by the layout of the poem: this specific spatial arrangement is the main typographic feature in the book, which is otherwise set in a single size of the Exposure typeface by Federico Parra Barrios (205TF), slightly underexposed. Everything else is a matter of playful colour and texture. 48 pages, 200×300 mm, 38 colour plates, softcover, saddle stitch binding, with text in French and English.
