My portfolio website – visual and interactive designer Maria Vasilyeva – is inspired by music and sound. Rhythm, typography, layout, custom interactions, and animation come together to create a dynamic and immersive experience.

Typography is central to the experience, shaping the rhythm and personality of the website.
The visual language is built around the interplay of three typefaces, each contributing a different voice to the composition. The main typefaces establish contrast and hierarchy, while a handwritten typeface adds a personal touch, inspired by annotations musicians make on their scores.

The musical metaphor extends throughout the website’s layout and interactions. Sound travels across the page, creating movement and connecting the different elements of the composition. Projects become notes within a larger melody, while typographic scale, spacing, and arrangement create rhythm across the page. Custom animations and transitions bring further movement to the experience, connecting typography, images, and interaction into a cohesive visual experience.
