Data Set Go! is a guide for anyone who wants to discover information design from the ground up, while embracing a broad and cross-disciplinary perspective. More than just a manual, it is a useful tool for navigating a discipline that is becoming increasingly central to our relationship with data, images, and knowledge.
The book begins with a historical journey that shows how the need to represent information has accompanied human evolution, from cave settlements and the emergence of the first maps to the digital age and interactive visualizations. It continues with an exploration of the discipline’s main areas of study, addressing topics such as the relationship between function and form, perceptual dynamics, infodemic, different approaches to visualization—from analytical to illustrative—and the dialogue between contemporary art and data culture.
Finally, it gives space to the voices of professionals in the field, who share their design processes, tools, and visions of future scenarios through a series of interviews.
The book was written by Francesco Paolo Incantalupo, with a preface by Stefano Cipolla and an afterword by Guido Lombardo. It includes interviews with Giorgia Lupi, Federica Fragapane, Manuel Bortoletti, and Mauro Martino.
