Located in the heart of a tree-filled park, the Scey-sur-Saône Cultural Centre in eastern France brings together a library, a branch of the departmental music school, three rehearsal studios, and the municipality’s youth centre.

The complexity of the site called for effective and distinctive signage to make the different spaces easy to understand, navigate, and welcoming.

Housed in two existing buildings connected by a contemporary, extensively glazed extension, this 836 m² facility provides a new place for residents of Scey-sur-Saône and the surrounding area to gather and spend time. However, the diversity of activities, users and spaces presented a major challenge: how could the site be made immediately understandable, while allowing everyone to find their way naturally?

To address this question, Supervision developed a comprehensive approach combining visual identity, signage and spatial design.

To support this new organisation, we developed the visual identity of the Cultural Centre as well as its signage system.

Colour plays a central role in the scheme. Each hue acts as a visual cue, helping users identify the different functions of the centre and understand how the spaces are organised. This colour-coded approach extends across the signage elements and directly into the architecture itself. In particular, we proposed adding colour to the arches and passageways connecting the different spaces. These graphic interventions define transitions, punctuate the visitor journey and give the building an immediately recognisable identity.

For this project, Supervision provided art direction, graphic design and project management, from the initial concept through to implementation.

The various murals that now decorate the building were produced from our graphic proposals by Julie Mélin. Her expertise in painting and graphic execution made it possible to translate the project into the physical space with precision.
