Federalist Reader is a free online edition of all 85 Federalist Papers, presented as the New-York newspaper serial in which they first appeared in 1787–88. Its “Gazette” view sets the essays in IM Fell DW Pica beneath IM Fell English titling, in justified multi-column measures; line breaking is computed with a Knuth–Plass algorithm (the justif library), giving even color, hyphenation, and hanging punctuation – note the commas and end-of-line hyphens protruding past the measure in the detail. Period ligatures and the long-Œ “FŒDERALIST” are preserved throughout, and each of the 85 sheets carries a unique “wear” pattern generated at build time. A one-tap “Reader” mode reflows the same text in Libre Caslon – Display for titles, Text for the body and the plain-language companion notes.
