Concerning Vietnam—published by Gregory R. Miller & Co., David Kordansky Gallery, and Casey Kaplan in 2019—is a book design project showcasing Eazy Fonts’ custom typeface EZ AnhEm.
The publication captures the extensive artistic research of New York-based artist Matthew Brannon, who spent five years examining the Vietnam/American War. Translating historical analysis into intricate silkscreen works that collage military documents, maps, corporate logos, and contemporaneous ephemera, Brannon employs the bold graphic language that define his œuvre. Titles in EZ AnhEm are used alongside text set in EB Garamond and ITC Garamond.
EZ AnhEm was developed in 2018 to address a gap in available typefaces that offered distinctive bold character with multilingual functionality—particularly for Vietnamese diacritics. It reinterprets the visual language of vernacular signage. Inspired by Vietnamese vernacular sign painting and public-facing lettering systems, it translates their clarity and immediacy into a contemporary multilingual display typeface. Substantial forms, generous counters, and a strong silhouette give EZ AnhEm its distinctive presence while ensuring exceptional readability. It offers wide language support ranging from French, Spanish, and German to Vietnamese.
