Centennial Symphony Orchestra – Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition album art

This version of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition was recorded by the Centennial Symphony Orchestra – an alias used by Camden for the Boston Symphony Orchestra – and released in 1953. It’s one of the first releases by the budget label that was launched in October of that year. By 1955, its name was changed to RCA Camden in the United States.

The cover design is by Clare Romano (1922–2017). The Cooper Union alumna here signed with her married surname, “Romano Ross”. The condensed didone is Gerry Powell’s Onyx (1937). The g’s flag in the composer’s name – here transcribed as “Moussorgsky” – has been touched up.
