Art direction for the 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which took place on October 26th in London. For nearly seven decades, the Ballon d’Or has stood as the ultimate individual accolade in the world of football. Established in 1956, it honors the players who have defined the beautiful game through their talent, character, and achievements on the pitch.
For this edition, France Football and L'Équipe (the organizers of the event) commissioned art director and graphic designer Mathieu Bourneuf for the art direction, with the help of Nolwen Sourdin and Luka Louraco for motion design. The 3D and animation were realized by Nolwen Sourdin and Charles Nardin. The modeling of the Ballon d’Or trophy was handled by Tiffen Lalloue and Michel Abiad from studio Ex-Machina.
For the typographic work, Mathieu Bourneuf used Large by me, Alexandre Créquer, for titles and Cera by Jakob Runge for additional text. I have developed (yet unreleased) Light and Light Italic versions of Large specifically for this project.
