Today is general election day in the U.S. and people are sharing the “I Voted” stickers that most local districts give away at the polls and in mailed ballot packets. I appreciate that whoever designed this sticker for the San Francisco elections chose something by a local type designer. My best guess is that this is Modesto Initials with the open parts filled in, and perhaps other minor modifications. It’s a lovely tribute to Jim Parkinson, who lived most of his life across the San Francisco Bay in Oakland and recently passed away. Parkinson named many of his typefaces after cities near his home, and this one example. (Modesto is a midsize town about 80 miles from Oakland.)
Maybe the sticker artist didn't know this, and simply scrolled to Modesto in Adobe, but I choose to believe otherwise.
