For the exhibition why do rivers cry? I designed a screen printed edition of 200 cards for Kunstverein Grafschaft Bentheim.
This edition is meant to be flooded – the cartographic and typographic layer disappears when it comes into contact with water. The curators, Ulrike Riebel and Roger Rohrbach, and I chose five images from my personal camera roll that resonated with the exhibition’s curatorial idea: “The exhibition brings together artistic perspectives that view water as a medium of memory, emotion, and change. The crying rivers symbolize loss and responsibility, but also new beginnings and the possibility of renewal.”
Once the tears dry, the print returns, as if nothing had happened.
The exhibition program features Javkhlan Ariunbold, Mary Bauermeister, Melina Bigale, Hervé Garcia, Clemens Botho Goldbach, David Hepp, Klara Hobza, Jungwoon Kim, Meike Schulze Hobeling, Philipp Valenta, Nicole Widner, and Gerrit Schulze Raestrup.
