Vedo Ombre (“I See Shadows”) by Diego Gabriele, published by Murmù Publishing, is an autobiographical illustrated book that immerses readers in a visual journey suspended between Gothic atmospheres and contemporary introspection.

Combining evocative illustrations with short texts, the book explores the power of fear and imagination from childhood onward. Through dreamlike scenes rendered in a sharp yet poetic visual language, Gabriele invites readers to revisit the fears that once haunted them and reinterpret them as companions in the process of growing up.

Each illustration is accompanied by a brief caption set in Bimbo Pro by Zetafonts. The choice of typeface plays a key role in the book’s visual narrative: its rounded, handwritten-inspired forms evoke personal notes and childhood writing, creating a deliberate contrast with the dark, angular qualities of the illustrations while maintaining an approachable and childlike tone.

From spiders and grasshoppers to towering shadowy figures that seem to lead lives more vivid than our own, every spread of Vedo Ombre becomes a journey into memory, vulnerability, and the enduring relationship between imagination and fear.
