In the mid-1980s, commercial radio stations started to broadcast in Germany. Until then there were public stations only.

In the late 1980s in particular, many private stations sprang up like mushrooms at the local and regional level.

In Heilbronn, Radio Regional was established as the station of the local daily newspaper Heilbronner Stimme. This was later followed by a merger with Radio T. O. N., based in Bad Mergentheim, and accompanying changes to the logo.

The original Radio Regional logo was used in two color variations, and the ratio of word and image marks was also adjusted depending on the intended use.
