A real world use of Abracadabra – by the designers Banks and Miles. Encounter ran from the 1950s until the 1990s and was largely funded by the CIA and MI6 until the late 60s. According to Wikipedia, “[r]epresentatives of MI6 and the CIA met in 1951 to discuss the creation of an ‘Anglo-American left-of-centre publication’, partly to counter the New Statesman.”
