Thomas Häberling, Head of Domestic News and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, in conversation with Ulrich Bremi – entrepreneur, member of the National Council, and former president of the FDP parliamentary group. For many years, Bremi led the Kaba Group and left a lasting mark on Swiss politics through his role as a parliamentarian and party leader.

“Freedom” and “responsibility” – two key concepts in a liberal social and economic order. Yet Ulrich Bremi was never satisfied with the conventional order of these values. A nonconformist thinker, he consistently exercised the freedom to question established assumptions. He argued that responsibility must come first – because greater responsibility leads to greater freedom. It is responsibility that legitimises freedom: those who take on responsibility also acquire the competence to act, to initiate – and thus enjoy more freedom than those who avoid it.

Ulrich Bremi felt a strong connection to Zollikon, located on Zurich’s Gold Coast. In reference to this, a special material was chosen for the book’s endpaper: like a touch of stardust, fine metallic pigments reflect the light on its surface, creating a subtly shimmering effect.
