Milton Glaser designed Eightway in or before 1969, together with lettering artist George Leavitt. In 1982, he used it himself for a retrospective double LP compilation by the rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group the Coasters. Named after their first hit from 1957, Young Blood was released by Atlantic/Deluxe.

Eightway Northeast Shaded is used with red and blue fill, respectively. All other text is set in a phototype version of Memphis.
