The Ukrainian music-theatre group MUR has just announced the premiere of their new performance – Rebeliia, which means uprising or rebellion. The show opens on August 21 at the October Palace in Kyiv and then goes on tour across Ukraine.

This is not just a performance – it’s a manifesto.

Rebeliia is about flowers growing from ashes,” says director Oleksandr Khomenko, “about choosing your own truth even when everyone around you tells you not to.” It’s about resistance, inner strength, and quiet courage in the face of war, pressure, and a centuries-old enemy trying to rewrite our values.

And the typography? It speaks just as loudly.

For the show’s identity, they chose the Kalyna typeface – a modern Ukrainian font with strong character and deep cultural roots. Designed by Alexandra Alexandrova
and Lukyan Turetskyy, Kalyna feels sharp, emotional, and grounded in Ukrainian tradition. Perfect for a story that’s all about standing your ground.

The letterforms carry the same energy as the story: bold, elegant, and unafraid. Kalyna isn’t just decoration – it’s part of the message. It feels Ukrainian. It feels rebellious.

In a time when design in Ukraine often carries deeper meaning, this pairing of content and type is no coincidence. Rebeliia shows how even the choice of a font can be a statement.
