Ray Conniff (1916–2002) started The Singers in 1959. The group comprised twelve women and thirteen men. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, several record covers released with Columbia Records featured West Behemoth for the name of the bandleader and arranger, always accompanied by a photo of a smiling woman.
