The Poetry Foundation is an independent literary organization dedicated to promoting poetry and its culture. This identity proposal is a student work I made at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

The custom type family I designed for it is called Poetry. It connotes a sense of formation; its lack of “completeness” suggests the notions of coming into being, of the poetry process, and of interpretation by the reader. The occasional lack of conventional clarity of a single letter invites examination and interpretation of relationships; while the simple, elemental forms used throughout the type family harken back to early writing systems and through the given context communicate clearly and with precision. Poetry is supported by Palatino.

The lowercase-only Poetry comes in three variations.
