This book with works by Peter Cain (1959–1997) was published by Matthew Marks Gallery in 2017, following a retrospective in fall 2016. Cain is known for his minimalist paintings and urban subjects. The monograph also contain essays by Beau Rutland, Richard Meyer, and Collier Schorr.

Cain’s way of representing the subjects in his compositions is quite minimal. The chosen artwork, a painting from 1989 titled Z, follows this principle: a simple background with the subject in its centre. So does the jacket design, with a simple background and the title in Neue Helvetica. A rather minimal design that suits Peter Cain.
