NGLM Group brings together design-oriented furniture and home retailers, legacy names like Nordiska Galleriet and Länna Möbler alongside newer labels YLLW and KA YO, under a single identity built around GD Trio, a custom display typeface based on the inscription on Trajan's Column. Shown here in Medium weight across branding, print, and web. It is supported by GD Gaio.
GD Trio takes the Trajan inscription (113 AD) as its starting point but isn’t a revival. The drawings go back to direct studies of the original carving and the Greek stonework that preceded it, reworking the proportions and serifs of the Roman square capital (Capitalis Monumentalis) for contemporary use rather than imitating it.
For NGLM, a group spanning century-old retailers and brand-new labels, that combination mattered: letterforms with over two thousand years of history doing new work, giving the identity depth and craftsmanship grounded in history without leaning on nostalgia. The full family runs seven weights, Light to Black, with Black a deliberate departure from classical norms to give the range a bolder, more experimental edge. Only Medium appears in the NGLM identity shown here. The brand identity and typeface design were executed by Gärde Design Studio.
GD Trio has since been released as a full retail typeface in all seven weights, available at foundry.gardedesign.se.
