With a population of about 22,000 inhabitants, the town of Richmond is today one of London’s wealthiest boroughs. Over centuries a preferred place of the kings and queens of England, the city that stands on the scenic banks of river Thames is blessed with picturesque architecture, vast greens, and an outstanding recreational value.

A group of locals with Italian family heritage and a background in architecture, design, and finance is about to add yet another good reason to visit Richmond: the Marzamemi festival that will be held for the first time on July 6 and 7 of 2024. It borrows its name from a small coastal hamlet at the southern tip of Sicily and combines it with the promise of a mediterranean weekend vacation without even leaving the clutches of London Transport.

Evoking sun and sea, the website uses yellow and blue as dominant colors, a strip of square patterns reminiscent of tiles closes the pages off at the bottom. While Futura is used as the reading typeface, the third element that coins the visual identity is the display typeface, Signal Compressed. The eye-catching quality resides in its “inverted stress” where the horizontal strokes are thicker than the vertical ones. Signal Compressed is used mostly used in all caps for headlines. For the logo, it’s employed with a perspective effect. The resulting wedge shape then is repeated in rotated and sometimes mirrored form to compose arresting typographic patterns.

Designed by Emmanuel Besse in 2018, Signal Compressed is part of the larger Signal Collection available from Production Type.
