Was ist schweizerisch? 34 Blicke auf ein Land (“What is Swiss? 34 Perspectives on a Country”) is the title of an essay collection published by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, in which a diverse group of authors attempts to explore the essence of national identity. Among the contributors are Adolf Muschg, Konrad Hummler, Sibylle Berg, Laura de Weck, Gertrud Leutenegger, and Dieter Meier. Bice Curiger writes about “Downtown Zwingli-Land”, Hugo Loetscher wonders, “As a Swiss, am I obliged to embody Swissness?”, and Christoph Blocher, true to form, remains “down to earth.”
In terms of design, the book pairs a homage to the typographic structure and distinctive grid of the NZZ with an eclectic paper color – inspired by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
