The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, 1969

In the late 1960s and 1970s, Bantam brought out a series of paperback editions of books by Tom Wolfe. The cover designs all follow the same recipe: take an image and place it inside concentric circles. Add the title and author’s name in the heavy slab-serif caps of West Behemoth above, set center-aligned and/or stacked and justified, and separated by a thin line that further accentuates the boldness of the type. Complete with a blurb in caps from Trade Gothic. Use reversed type on darker background colors and black type on lighter ones.
