Il Falco e la Stella (“The Hawk and the Star”) is a novel by Fabrizio Altieri, published in 2025 by Modena-based publisher Equilibri. Set during World War II, the story follows two sixteen-year-olds who become involved with the Italian Resistance after a chance encounter with a wounded British paratrooper.
The cover was designed and illustrated by Massimo Pastore. His illustration extends across the front cover, spine, and back cover, and is paired with two period-inspired typefaces from CAST’s Alfabeti Modernisti project: AM Majella, designed by Valentina Casali, and AM Tripoli, designed by Alessandro Bombieri.
Both are digital revivals of Italian wood types from the 1930s. AM Majella combines a geometric, rationalist construction with the movement of a connected script, while AM Tripoli is a dark uppercase sans serif with sharp, expressionist forms and a distinctly hand-cut feel. Their historical roots make them a particularly fitting choice for a story set during the Second World War.
The author’s name is added in what looks like Axiforma by Galin Kastelov.
