Studio Gourdin designed a wayfinding system for Grundschule Isestraße, a primary school in Hamburg, using Fictional.
Summer 2025 saw Grundschule Isestraße primary school open its doors in Hamburg-Harvestehude. The modernised, historical building offers ample space for learning in an atmosphere of creativity, co-operation and research.
The children are located in spacious compartments, which are designed like small nests, with each team issued with its own identifying “bird sign”. This enables them to find their way around the building whilst also sensing a oneness with the greater community.
Like fledglings, the children practice spreading their wings – borne by familiarity, security and mutual support. Because you need wings if you are going to fly.
