Frymark Berlin

Graphic and knitwear designer Eric Frymark, founder of Frymark Berlin Atelier, created a series of knitted accessories using TheSans.

The pieces were produced in wool using a double-bed Jacquard technique. Translating typography into fabric is not as simple as sending text to a knitting machine. The lettering was first mapped manually onto a grid of stitches. Because stitches are taller than they are wide, the letterforms were stretched vertically to around 130 percent. Without this adjustment, they would appear compressed in the finished fabric.

The project tested the versatility of TheSans in an unfamiliar medium, transforming a digital typeface into a tactile and wearable object.
