Jane Austen’s Emma is a comedy of manners first published in 1815. The cover of Signet’s 1969 edition (CT388) features art by Alex Tsao. The typeface is not quite as old as the novel: it’s the solid style of Herman Ihlenburg’s Treasury, which MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan first cast in 1874.
