CEALD magazine, issue 1, was designed by Emma Märschenz and Anna Maurer as a student project at the Fakultät für Gestaltung of Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt, supervised by Christoph Barth.
It explores the privilege of feeling cold as a mirror of contemporary society. Through essays, interviews, and visual research, the publication examines the social and aesthetic dimensions of coldness, considering how minimalism, materiality, and architecture reflect broader structures of privilege and inequality.
The editorial design combines the serif typeface OO Lyga, designed by Samira Schneuwly and published by Outline Online, with CEALD Display, designed by Emma Märschenz and Anna Maurer, and TWK Continental, designed by Guillaume Besson and published by Weltkern. Together, the typefaces create a dialogue between expressive display typography and a restrained editorial text face, supporting the publication’s conceptual narrative.
