Books and Others 2022 – I più bei libri italiani is the title of a project made by Aurora Pelaggi and Matteo Mariangioli, students of the MA in Communication and Design for Publishing at ISIA Urbino. The three-volume catalogue presents a hypothetical selection of books competing in the Books & Others Prize exhibition at ICA Milano. The typeface used for the setting the texts is Söhne by Klim Type Foundry.

From the back cover (auto-translated from the Italian with DeepL):

As part of the exhibition and workshop of ideas dedicated to the book of art and visual culture Books and Others, a jury of experts awards the best Italian books of 2022. The three-volume catalog recounts a selection of the competing books. The collection offers different points of view through which to observe each book under analysis, which, as the narrative proceeds, becomes a tool to decipher the next one in a continuous comparison based on a game of distances. The gaze moves away to give an overall view of the pages and, subsequently, comes so close as to let one grasp those elements that, though partially visible in the total, make up the distinctive features of each volume. This catalog seeks, moreover, to partially abandon the unique dimension of the book by entering that of the poster. Through this mode each title lives independently. Moreover, the book and poster dimensions coexist to create alternate layers of reading. Comparison, as well as the relationship created between the different titles, becomes the key to the proposed looking, leaving the possibility of making the user participate in the combination of relationships between images and typography.
