The Canetti Stiftung (Canetti Foundation) is dedicated to editing the works and literary estate of the writer Elias Canetti. Born in 1905 and deceased in 1994, the Nobel Prize winner for literature is considered a classic of world literature. In partnership with Hanser, the foundation publishes the Zürcher Ausgabe (“Zurich edition”), a critical complete edition that, for the first time, also makes material from the approximately 10,000-page estate accessible.
Jost Hochuli was commissioned to develop the typographic concept for the editions and proposed Weymann Serif by Marc Weymann, whose design matched the foundation's mission of critically bringing Canetti's writing to life. In the typeface description, we write:
Firm, spacious and clear, Weymann Serif draws on typographic tradition while carving a voice of its own.
This made Weymann Serif the perfect choice for the project. The typeface was not only used throughout the books but was also adopted as a core element of the foundation's visual identity.
