This is a proposed rebrand for a publishing company called Zubaan, made as a student project at the School of Visual Arts, New York.

Zubaan is an independent feminist publishing house based in New Delhi. They publish academic books, fiction, memoirs, popular nonfiction, and books for children and young adults, always aiming to be pioneering, cutting-edge, progressive and inclusive.

Zubaan is an Urdu word that roughly translates to “voice” or “word”. The primary logo is set in Robinson to stay true to the Urdu origins of the word. However, the book covers use Mānuka to reflect the bold content.

The academic series of book covers is type only. The anthology series takes inspiration from textiles from each of the northeastern states on which the books are based. The Projects series studies sexual violence in southeast Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
