Dust jacket of the original Japanese edition

ITC Avant Garde Gothic Condensed is used for the title of Sonomama Sonomama (そのまま そのまま; English: “As it is, as it is”).

From IDEA Books:

Extraordinary Japanese book published in the late ’80s. The designs of Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, Comme des Garçons and more taken out of the cities and photographed on Japanese country people. Gloriously large format. The most wonderful book; fashion reference and inspiration.

The collection of portraits taken by photographer Taishi Hirokawa (b. 1950) was first published in 1987 by 流行通信 Ryukyo Tsushin. An American edition by Chronicle Books followed in 1988.
