Riederalp gondola

I always liked the lettering on these gondolas to Riederalp-West, now I know why: it is set in Signal, a typeface designed by Walter Wege in Berlin in 1931.

Here, Signal appears on the cabins of the six-person gondola linking Mörel, Ried-Mörel and Riederalp-West. The two sections date from 1987 (the upper part) and 1996 (the lower part); both were built by Garaventa and use CWA cabins.

Once you’ve reached the top station, don’t miss the half-hour walk to the Pro Natura Centre Aletsch, housed in the historic Villa Cassel, and the magnificent view of the Aletsch Glacier.
