LIFE is a post-punk band from Hull, England. We had the pleasure to be part of the process and designed the artwork for their album North East Coastal Town, that was released on vinyl, compact disc and cassette tape.
The album is about a sense of belonging and connection to the hometown, both musically and lyrically. Water turned out to be the unifying element for the band members and we translated this element into our design. The record cover was created in an analogous manner, by cutting up letters, rearranging them, distorting them with water and then capturing them photographically.
The Typografischen Monatsblätter (typographic monthly sheets) served as the source of inspiration for the typographic idea.
We worked exclusively with Scott Vander Zee’s Default Sans in three weights: Bold, Regular + Italic and Book.
