ELYS is a cultural and commercial building in the St. Johann quarter in Basel. It houses offices, studios and commercial spaces, an event hall, halls for climbing and other sports, catering and storage areas, club bars and band rehearsal rooms. The identification name “ELYS” is a neologism derived from the two street names “Elsässerstrasse” and “Lysbüchelstrasse”, which border the site.

The transformation of the former Coop distribution centre into a cultural and commercial building was initiated and realised by the Office for Real Estate Basel-City as part of the upgrading of the Lysbüchel industrial site and the overall development of Volta Nord.

The branding and typography were handled by Lengsfeld designkonzepte. FRAC is used for the venue logo, and information is set in LL Circular.
