Egyben látni a nagy egészet. Tanulmánykötet Konecsni György munkásságáról (“Seeing the Whole Picture: Studies on the Work of György Konecsni”) covers the life and work of György Konecsni (1908–1970), a prominent painter and graphic designer active in 20th-century Hungary.
It is very rare for books on Hungarian graphic design history to be published.
The challenge was to create a book typography that not only reflects the spirit of 1960s Hungarian modern graphic design but also conveys the authors’ contemporary perspective.
Konecsni’s 1968 exhibition poster and catalog – originally designed by Gábor Papp – inspired the book’s visual concept. The cover illustration serves as a metaphor for a close-up on Konecsni’s life’s work. Enlarged pictograms at the beginning of each chapter play with negative space and highlight the evolution of his works.
The cover, headlines, and body text use Oszkár Boskovitz’s Margaret Next – a new design inspired by Zoltán Nagy’s renowned Antikva Margaret. This is the first publication printed with Margaret Next. To create a balanced typographic contrast, MD IO by Rutherford Craze was used for footnotes, referencing archival documents and typewritten texts.
