Everyone knows that fat strokes for the illustration of a ship call for the fat strokes of Hermann Zapf’s Sistina. The water stain in the upper right corner is not part of the original illustration by Dick Bruna, but it’s a fitting addition because ships do their best work in the water.

First published in 1938 as Les rescapés du Télémaque, this Dutch paperback edition is from 1967.
