Kushell is a phototypeface shown by Lettergraphics in their 1968 catalog. The design is at least half a century older than that: Kushell is based on an untitled capital alphabet shown in the 1917 edition of Strong’s Book of Designs by Detroit-based lettering artist Charles Jay Strong (1866–1910) and his son Lawrence Stewart Strong (1888–1977). Formatt had a version for dry transfer lettering named Tinker. Solotype carried it as Castaway. There are various digital interpretations, see the typeface page for details.
Here it can be seen in use with a long shade, for a self-titled album by Clifton Chenier (1925–1987), King of Zydeco, recorded with his Red Hot Louisiana Band for Arhoolie Records. Cover design by Wayne Pope, with photography by Edmund Shea
