Agroecology Days (Journées de l’Agroécologie / Tage der Agrarökologie / Giornate dell’agroecologia) is a project by Swiss initiative Agroecology Works. Pablo Perez and Céline Hurka designed a visual campaign for the 2024 edition applied to printed matter and social media.
For the campaign they used Lilian (Céline Hurka) and Gauche (Céline Hurka, Jan Egbers) and created a series of custom typographic ornaments which are matching the typefaces and are based on the local flora and fauna in Switzerland. It is a trilingual project, hence all applications were translated and executed in French, German and Italian. The posters were printed by Vögeli AG with Cradle to Cradle, a circular printing method focusing on sustainability.
The process was done in close collaboration with Theo Fischer who supplied the designers with knowledge about the local Swiss vegetation. The idea was to create a colourful environment where illustration and text merge. The focus played on highlighting the rawness of ecological food production and sustainable farming, setting a statement against industrial exploitative farming methods and mono crops.
From their website (translated):
Agroecology works – a large and growing number of organizations and initiatives are convinced by the principle of agroecology. Many are already committed to the principle of agroecology, both nationally and globally. To bring them together, benefit from synergies and activate a paradigm shift, new ways of working together are needed. Hence the birth of the “Agroecology works!” platform in 2019. The vision: The network aims to promote agroecology in Switzerland as a guiding principle for the sustainable and comprehensive transformation of our food system. In doing so, science, practice and society are involved.
