A Chinese newspaper’s composing room from the late 1920s

In these two photos, taken by Paul Hutchinson around 1927, you can see the composing room of a Chinese newspaper of the late 1920s. Typesetting with Chinese characters was clearly challenging due to the number of characters involved, it is indeed estimated that a compositor had to walk over three miles ot typeset a single page.
