Halyard Micro is the typeface used for the website of Whitehall.

In 2020, the Manhattan-based interior design studio revamped their online presence. With the exception of the custom stencil W monogram and the wordmark, all text is rendered in Halyard Micro. This subfamily of the Halyard typeface series by Darden Studio is characterized by deep cuts and stencil-like joins. Originally intended to ensure good legibility even in microscopic sizes, these features can of course also be diverted as an eye-catcher when used in larger sizes – a quality we anticipated and embraced already in the examples shown on the Halyard microsite.

Whitehall artfully employs the striking letterforms with their chiseled look as embodiment of their slogan “Design with distinction” – it’s almost as if they were pieces of custom furniture themselves. For text, Halyard Micro is used with generous line spacing, and mainly in two contrasting weights. Together with the select photography and the largely monochrome design, this yields a portfolio website that mirrors the quality of Whitehall’s projects: unconventional and unique, yet maximally functional and sublime.
