The Soul Clan was the name of a collective formed in 1966 by soul musicians such as Joe Tex, Ben E. King, Don Covay, Solomon Burke, and Arthur Conley. Initially Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett were in the Soul Clan, but were replaced by Conley and King. ATCO released an album with singles from members of the Soul Clan, along with two of the Soul Clan's songs.

Notable Loring Eutemey of Push Pin Studios designed the cover, opting to use the newly-added Calendar in style F for the album’s name/artist. Calendar F and H are similar, with F having closed bottom apertures in favor of a “solidified” look.
