The Schomburg Center is one of the world’s leading cultural institutions devoted to the preservation and study of materials focused on African American, African Diasporic, and African experiences. Its wide-ranging collections illuminate the richness of global Black history, arts, and culture, and continue the tradition of its namesake.

Featuring the Community Gothic typeface by Frere-Jones Type, the design was created by Brooklyn-based Morcos Key, who collaborated with The New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on the celebratory announcement of its centennial. To mark the occasion, a special limited-edition library card was produced featuring artwork by Houston Conwill for the Schomburg’s 100th anniversary.
