Venus Bold Extended in use for My Fair Lady. An adaptation of Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play Pygmalion, the musical was written by Alan Jay Lerner (book and lyrics) and Frederick Loewe (music), and starred Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison.

The cover shown above is for the original 1956 Broadway recording, featuring John Michael King as Freddy. Three years later, Columbia Masterworks released an album with the 1959 London recording, featuring Leonard Weir in the role.

The illustration is by Al Hirschfeld – can you spot his signature? And the name of his daughter, Nina?

Most of the smaller text is set in the regular and bold weights of Trade Gothic Condensed.
