In her latest novel, 2022 Jabuti Prize winner Micheliny Verunschk explores gender violence and religious fanaticism in a Brazilian rural community where a woman is burned alive by her family in a ritualistic exorcism gone wrong. Blending reality and the supernatural, Verunschk delivers a haunting tale of brutality influenced by fundamentalism and patriarchal oppression.

The Italian edition was translated from the Brazilian Portuguese by Dea Merlini and published by 66thand2nd, an independent Italian publishing house.
