Kodemul is the musical alter ego of Arturo Mejia, primarily known as a producer, promoter, DJ, and audiovisual artist. The cover was designed for an EP with six edits. The design and aesthetic of the cover art draw inspiration from the album covers of classical Mexican music such as Juan Gabriel’s 1983 album Todo.

For the design, I used CirrusCumulus, a typeface designed by Clara Sambot. CirrusCumulus was created without the use of curves; it consists of different modules inspired by scientific diagrams. The font is a hybridization of two styles: it features a lowercase set with a linear style, as well as an uppercase set with a script-like appearance. Additionally, some glyphs adopt italic forms, resulting in unique combinations, arabesques, and ligatures.

The reason for selecting this font was based on an analysis of Alberto Reyna’s cover typography used for Juan Gabriel’s Todo. I aimed to capture the same feeling and aesthetic of the display typography found in that album, but with a more modern and experimental approach. CirrusCumulus establishes a connection to the classic display font while incorporating its own distinct design elements.
