The Payback is a 1973 double-LP from James Brown with lengthy, kinetic funk workouts with his top-notch band, The J.B.’s. The title track was a #1 R&B hit, and the album went to #1 on the Soul Albums chart for two weeks and made the Top 40 of the Pop Albums chart.

The font in use is Colin Brignall’s Revue (Letraset, 1968), in all caps with some extended bits.

Cover design by Charles Bobbit and James Brown, with art direction by Davis Fried Krieger Inc., and art by Don Brautigam.
